A Mid Century Look That Avoids The Pitfall of Being 'Themey'

One of the challenges of a mid century home is that without the right mix of elements it can get a little 'themey'  But when I stumbled upon Marcus Hay's interiors at the very lovely Peacock Feathers I was blown away by the pops of interest that create a bit of tension to the mid century look.  The bright colours of the dining room chairs, the amazing two tones of grey walls in the bedroom all they way through to the industrial accents of the bathroom give the home a fresh feel that doesn't go too far into one look.  Loves Loves Loves!

DIY Striped Curtains! Cheap and Easy!

Boldly striped curtains command attention in a room.  They are strong, impactful and I love them, but finding striped curtains at a reasonable price is a whole other story.  Until now.  Lovely Indeed has this ace tutorial on how to create your own striped curtains at next to nothin.  Check it out.

"I sewed curtain panels from simple muslin material, and decided how wide I wanted my stripes according to how tall the panels were (this will take a little math on your part).  Then, I taped off the areas that I wanted striped.  Keep in mind that when the tape is down, some stripes will look wider because you’ll have to allow for the width of the actual tape. I laid the taped panels on a dropcloth (which was actually a dollar store plastic tablecloth) and started painting.  The paint I used was a color that we had previously used on our walls, so it was straight-up Benjamin Moore.  I mixed in a bit of fabric medium (found at Michael’s Crafts) so that the paint wouldn’t stiffen or crack when it dried.  Lots of online tutorials say to use a roller for this part, but I found a paintbrush to be much more effective and just plain faster. Okay, dudes.  Now paint.  Paint like your life depends on it.  I had six panels, and I ended up having to split the painting over a couple of days because the project started taking (waaaay) longer than expected.  Let the paint dry a bit and pull off your tape"

Swan Lake Ballet Wedding Inspiration in Marbella

Apologies for my recent lack of blogging but after the Christmas holidays we have been inundated with wedding enquiries which is hugely exciting but has meant I have spent my evenings on my email and my head in my diary instead of concentrating on my blog and oh how I have missed it!

But having finally managed to get back to some organised normality (and hired two interns) we are sharing more wonderful inspirations and what better way to start than to celebrate the culture of Marbella who recently hosted a Swan Lake production from the Moscow Ballet in the Teatro de Ciudad.

 We thought it would be lovely to produce a mood board based on this inspiration for a wedding using obviously feathers :)

This year I have noticed various new trends emerging which we will blog about over the next few weeks and have some fabulous guest bloggers as well sharing their insights with us too so do check back to hear other professionals take on the latest wedding trends.

One is still the very vintage style (sorry Jeremy!) but it is becoming more elegant, we have seen metallic wedding cakes emerging, more glitter, jewels and glam reappearing and just slightly more decadent, crochet I think is finally out!

The rustic, burlap, eco wedding is going to continue to be a big hit this year and we are very excited to be producing some fabulous designs with these design elements.

Another big fashion I have noticed this year is very bright colours creeping into weddings off the catwalks.  A dizzying range of colours from the popular cobalt blues of last year's weddings to the almost fluorescent yellows, greens and fuchsias, lots of florals and a more spectacular use of colours steering away from the paler corals, silvers and husky blues that we have seen over the past few years.

Finally roll over Bollywood, we have some amazing creations coming out our studio for our Indian weddings this year!

There is so much more to share with you all as our business is changing quite considerably over the next few months but I will be back!
